Origins:

In the ‘90s and ‘00s, Josh co-created with bands Dorothy’s House,
Bake a File in the Cake, The Tragic Events, and It’ll Come, all blips on the Central Jersey/NYC scene.

Arriving in the Bay Area in 2010 for a masters degree in Integral Ecologies, Josh longed to learn how to hold the scariest environmental lessons in ways that weren’t paralyzing, and move those transformations through our bodies better.

With the last decade’s hardest questions unresolved, and our climate tipping points unraveling, Josh smelled something on the edge of overripe, just out of reach ~

~ so, Josh started to harvest. self-producing each track for his debut album A Void Dance, premiering on the final Winter Solstice of the twenty teens, and then at midnight New Years 2020,

following through with twelve songs
released at precise synchaironistic moments
nestled amongst all that arrived with this new decade.

This Banyan tree in Laupāhoehoe, on the Big Island of Hawaii
outlived the April Fools Day 1946 tsunami triggered by an
earthquake in Alaska, which destroyed the school that stood around the tree at the time, and killed 20 students and 4 teachers.

Home Howls was musically doula’d

through the sonic supernovae of grunge and riot grrl,

chronologically something like ~

Paul Simon, Aretha, Leonard Cohen, Michael Stipe, Weird Al, Kurdt, Trent, Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, Sleater Kinney, Thom Yorke, The Pixies, Nina Simone, Missy Elliot, Outkast, Chaka Khan, Bowie, Queen, Le Tigre, Talib Kweli, TV on the Radio, Animal Collective, Reggie Watts, Beth Ditto, Zap Mama, Fela Kuti, Brittany Howard, Sylvan Esso, Das Racist, The Coup, Barbatuques.

Deeply appreciated encouragements from our friend Merrill Garbus from tUnE-yArDs.

Home Howls’ cosmology

is woven with “end of the world” witches and wizards like ~

Joanna Macy, Elizabeth Allison, Brian Swimme, Sean Kelly, adrienne marie brown, Bayo Akomolafe, Donna Harraway, Carolyn Casey, Stephen Jenkinson, Glenn Albrecht,

along with countless accounts from the front lines of climate chaos and bioreavement.
